The California Department of Public Health confirmed the death of a state resident due to an infection caused by consuming lettuce grown in Yuma, Arizona, a major supplier of romaine lettuce in the U.S. during the winter season.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned consumers to avoid eating romaine lettuce unless they can verify that it was not sourced from Yuma. However, officials have stated that the growing season in the area has now ended.
